For those of you who are completely confused right now, here is a brief run down on what this web-site is about. There exists in England a group known as the Lorien Trust who run live action roleplaying games set in the world of Edreja. The most famous of these events is known as the Gathering of Nations, and takes place in late August every year, but there are other smaller events which run on various dates. The world of Edreja is large and diverse, and players take the part of characters from a number of different cultures which are grouped into federations known as factions.
Within each of these factions are smaller groups. These groups come about in a number of ways - some are formed because a number of friends wish to attend an event and so come up with a concept which explains why they would be together, whereas others are formed by diverse interests who come together for reasons which have arisen in the game itself. Such groups generally have an overriding theme and often a background and culture common to all members.
Armengar is a group which was set up to give Irish players an easy access point to the Gathering and other events. Due to the large number of players (several thousand at the Gathering), the events can be intimidating. By forming a group of Irish players who get to know each other in advance, Armengar seeks to make the experience less intimidating. So far the results have been remarkable. In 2000 there were approximately five Irish players that we know of at the Gathering. In 2002 we brought over in excess of thirty.
There is more to Armengar though than being a
confederation of Irish players. Armengar has quite an involved background
(some of which is as yet unknown to us, and will form part of unfolding plots
in the future), and a rich culture to play off. In the pages linked below you
will find information on geographical, societal, historical and spiritual
aspects of Armengar. Set to this background, Armengar continues to evolve
within the game; for example, we recently joined the Lions faction and many changes are in
the wind for Armengar. By joining, you can help shape the face of the society
to come.
