Caradawc was born in 1070 the only child
of 2 armengarian scouts. By the time he was 10 both his parents where
dead, unfortunately not an uncommon thing in Armengar at the time. In
the training camps he met up with and be came close friends with Branwen,
Aonghus and Dallandra. There was little surprise when all 4 chose to become
scouts or at the marriages of Caradawc and Branwen, and Aonghus and Dallandra.
The 4 worked well together, and the times seemed good, but it never lasts.
In 1085 Cara, Caradawc's daughter was born. Branwen died in childbed.
Some said that their 4 patterns where 1 and with the lose of Branwen a
piece of them died. However the had no choice but to go on. About a month
later Aonghus and Dallandra's son, Searbhan was born. 5 years later when
Cara and Searbhan where starting in the camps, Caradawc decided he did
not want his knowledge and skills to die with him and so, started instructing
new scouts. Aonghus and Dallandra also joined him in this. For the next
6 years things went as well as they could, friends still died and the
Calebii kept coming, but the 3 of them just got on with the training and
the scouting. Much to Caradawc’s delight, Cara demonstrated the same talents
for scouting that her mother had and so she trained as one.
In 1096 disaster struck. While 3 of them where leading a bunch of trainees
on their fist excursion of the plateau, they where ambushed by a party
of Calebii. In the attack Dallandra was killed as where 3 of their charges,
anther 3 including Cara and Searbhan, where captured. Caradawc and Aonghus
had no choice but to get their remaining 4 students to safety. While Caradawc
mourned silently, Aonghus did not take it so well, he took to drinking
heavily and going off by himself. 2 months later, after leaving early
on a scouting mission, Caradawc walked back in to the citadel, carrying
Aonghus’s corpse. He had died of a sword trust to the stomach. Caradawc
carried him in, set him down, turned and left with out saying a word.
No one stopped him.
After 2 months with no word of him, people started to say he must be dead.
Then strange reports started coming back to the citadel, a unit of Calebii
all with their throats slit, anther dead for no obvious reason, of bodies
found ! skinned hanging from trees. The strangest of the tales was of
a unit that had apparently killed each other. Whether he did these or
not, people started crediting them to Caradawc's ghost. It was some shock
then when a year to the day of his departure, Caradawc walk back in to
the citadel. He never said anything on what had happened and no questions
where asked, but people could tell he was different. No longer did he
calmly take what ever came along, and people stopped going to him, looking
for friendly advice. He was colder, angrier and seemed haunted. It took
less to make him lose his temper and his rage could be fearsome. It was
if as somebody put it, he was the last piece of a pattern and the others
where calling to him.
Recent events have started to wear on Caradawc. To him it seem the departure
of the Calebii instead of bringing peace and happiness to the people of
Amnor, they seem to be falling apart, arguing over everything and never
able to agree. The return of old faces, like Delban and Sionna, have not
brought joy, but rather more division and arguments. As for himself he
finds he has nothing to do now, and spends long periods of time staring
out to sea, brooding on his thoughts. The order not to go somewhere on
the island he nearly views as his after all the years of wandering it
grate on his nerves. He is starting to feel weary, and wonders if he wants
to see what will happen to Amnor in the days to come, or if he should
leave now, either to see what lies in the world out there of to go join
Branwen and his friends and make the pattern whole again.
