Connor was tending to his limp, unresponsive father as he always did in the
evenings. Then he noticed something miraculous; his father's eyes were
tracking his movement. Connor knelt down to him and began trying to get more
of a response from him. Connor got no reaction so he continued but his
father made no movement. Connor almost thought he must have imagined the
movement in his father's eyes but he refused to give up so easily,
"Father can you hear me, Father". He was interrupted by a voice behind him
"Conchubhair. Conchubhair stop it you'll upset mother."
Connor turned to the voice of his brother "But this time I'm certain I saw
him move. He's there, inside." Connor knew in his heart that his statement
was true, was just a mater of time before he would come back him.
Connor O'Dea was born in November 1086 nearly a year after his older brother
Tadhg. His parents, Cait and Eoin, worked with leather with a view of making
armour. However Eoin always wanted to be more; he dreamed of being a famous
warrior. One summer when Connor and Tadhg were very young he decided to try
and fulfil this ambition. He went out with some of the armour he would
usually make for others and an old sword that had either been in too many or
too few battles, in an attempt to make a name for himself by helping defeat
the Calebii. He was fatally injured in the battle and was carried back to
the city in a terrible state. He was nearly dead when the healers got to
him. They made a valiant attempt to save him and in most regards they did.
His body recovered fully but his mind was lost. Connor however strongly
believes that his father's mind is not truly gone and that one-day he will
awaken as himself again and everything will be like it was before he we went
out on his quest to become a warrior. This strongly contradicts Tadhg's
thoughts of how their father left to fulfil a selfish goal that left the
family torn. Connor and Tadhg often argue over the validity of their
father's dream.
Connor started training at the age of four, at the same time as Tadhg and
although this was earlier than most would begin he wanted to be just like
his older brother. When Connor was seven Tadhg drank the sap of the Wishing
Tree to become a healer. He was dangerously ill for a few days but
recovered with a strengthened connection to the plain of life. Connor wanted
to follow in his brother's footsteps but his mother wouldn't allow it as
Tadhg had barely survived and she was afraid that Connor wouldn't.
Connor continued to train as a warrior while his brother became a healer. He
had always aspired to be like Tadhg but this was no longer possible. This
left Connor with an emptiness. He filled this with his love for his father
and the belief that Eoin will eventually regain his mind. He now seeks to
make his father proud and become a famous warrior achieving the dream that
his father never accomplished.
Connor is very ambitious, wishing to become a great warrior. He wishes to
fight for his father and will rarely turn down the opportunity of a battle.
His greatest fear is that he will fail or be unable to do well enough as he
occasionally thinks of the healers that failed to fully heal Eoin. He will
put others before himself and although he wishes to be recognised he will
always think of what benefits the group as whole first.
